This was my first experience with the natural birth process. After leaving a wonderful midwife in Georgia and relocating with the military I found myself in Dover, Deleware searching for a doula. I found Cindy about two months before my expected due date. After meeting her and hearing all she had to say, I knew I had so much to learn about birthing and not very much time to learn it. Coming in to this experience I knew one thing, and it was that I wanted to have my baby naturally. I knew some of the dangers involved with a medicalized birth and that was enough for me to want to steer clear of medical intervention. So I thought that making the decision to go natural was simple that, a decision, one that I would follow through with. WOW! How very little did I know. Cindy taught me so much in so little time, and I still have more to learn! She provided books for me to read, videos to watch and she had all the answers to my endless questions.
I felt very comfortable with her the moment we had our first consultation. Cindy came to my home to meet my family and to discuss our plans about the birth. She helped me with my birthing plan, showed me exercises and taught me so much about my body and the baby.
My expected due date came and went and naturally, I became a little anxious. Cindy recommended I visit the chiropractor for and adjustment, and the very next morning, I went into labor. Cindy was in communication with me all day until I was ready for her to come to my house to help me labor . She came to my house around 1 o’clock in the morning and stayed by my side until I was pushing baby out. She was very assertive to all my needs. She knew what I needed without me having to say a word, and gave me so much support. She was there through every contraction lifting my belly and reminding me to breathe.
The labor was going very well and I felt it was time to go to the hospital to have the baby. (I learned after going that I should have waited longer to go! ) During transitional labor I was unable to relax and I let Cindy know, MANY TIMES. She didn’t lose her cool with me and remained very patient and kind through it all. I am very sure that it wasn’t easy for her! She also never lost her confidence in me when I thought I couldn’t do it. She encouraged me so much and made me feel good at the toughest times!
Cindy encapsulated my placenta, and even made a heart out of the umbilical cord. You should see it, it is amazing! She also took the time to make a precious little beanie for our daughter, Avila. If that wasn’t enough, Cindy even had prepared an awesome herbal sitz bath to help with my healing.
Cindy was awesome. I can’t imagine my labor and birth without her. She was an immense support for me and my husband. She is a Godsend to me and my family.
