Meghan's Home Water Birth
Cindy was so much more than simply labor support. I “met” Cindy when I was almost 20 weeks pregnant with my 3rd son. I knew that I did not want to repeat the experiences of my older children’s births. I had numerous interventions, and felt out of control of my birthing process. In our first talk, Cindy took the time to figure out what I wanted from a birth, and helped me make a plan to put that into action. Cindy was sensitive and professional at every turn. She helped explain my birth options. She pointed me in the way of the woman who would become my midwife. She also took it upon herself to become sensitive to the challenges I personally worried I would face during labor and nursing. Cindy helped keep me focused and positive as my pregnancy neared the end. She made my belly cast so I could have a keepsake of my beautiful baby belly. Cindy frequently reminded me that babies come when babies are ready, and kept me calm as my estimated due date came and went. She just kept telling me “it’s an estimated date not an expiration date”.
When the big day came, Cindy got in her car at 2am and drove to my house (in what I am sure was an illegally fast manner). She took pictures, helped me nurse for the first time, and made sure I was comfortable and settled before she left. She encapsulated my placenta, which has NUMEROUS health benefits.
Without Cindy I am sure my birth would have been full of needless and dangerous interventions. With Cindy, I had the most healing and amazing homebirth —shared with my husband and midwives. I caught my baby, and my husband got to cut the cord. We were able to bond as a family and not be interrupted by blood pressure machines, uterine “massages” and other invasive procedures. I cannot recommend her highly enough. I cannot begin to put into words the ways she helped me. I cannot imagine a pregnancy that did not include her. Women should have doulas, every woman should be lucky enough to have Cindy.
